Curling Maybe The Best Sport You’ve Never Heard Of
By Max Reinhart
Bowling Green’s connection to curling started back in 1967 when they opened a new ice arena that came complete with a curling rink and lounge to view the rink.
To get use out of the rink, clinics and open curling sessions were held. Soon the community was aware of the sport and soon after that, the Curling Club was started.
The club has been a great way to learn the sport and meet new people - one couple even married after meeting through Curling Club.
Alana, who grew up in Canada watching her grandparents play the sport, and Tony, who heard about curling through a friend owe their entire relationship to curling.
While you may not meet your spouse at the club, you are likely to find fun. The club’s motto is “whether you’ve never stepped on the ice before, or have curled your whole life, we want you to curl with us!”
If you think curling sounds interesting but you don’t have the time or means to make it to the rink, be sure to check out the event during the winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada in February 2010. But if you think you’d like to try something new, contact spiroth@bgsu.edu for information or to register.
