Millstream

Did you know that there is a vocational career center in Findlay for teens?  Believe it or not there is! Millstream Career and Technology Center teaches students skills and gives them the opportunity to prepare for their ultimate career or even give them the chance to start their career right out of high school.  Schools including Arlington, Arcadia, Cory Rawson, Vanlue, Van Buren, Miller City, and several others have students enrolled in Millstream.  Many parents would question this type of schooling because they know so little about it, but attending Millstream is very simple.

The first question a parent may ask would be:  What does Millstream have to offer?  Millstream offers a range of career fields that one may be interested in.  It contains various courses such as classes on cosmetology, culinary arts, construction, childhood education, automotive and medical technology, and various other areas of study.

The next question many parents may ask is:  How does my child get there?  Many students can either drive to Millstream or take a bus.  Each school has a bus that goes to and from Millstream during the day.  Transportation has never been a problem and along with learning at Millstream, you can meet many students from different schools in order to make new friends.

Another question that parents may ask is:  How old must you be to attend Millstream and how long do you stay there?  You must be at least a sophomore to attend Millstream at all schools except Findlay high school and sometimes you even have to wait until your junior year depending on what program you wish to go to.  Millstream lasts from 7:35 a.m. until 10:35 a.m. and from 12:35 p.m. until 2:35 p.m.  The program in which you are entered into tells what time you will have to go to Millstream.

The final question a parent may ask is:  Does it cost more than attending a public school?  Compared to a public school, Millstream may be fairly expensive depending on what program you are enrolled in.  The fees may be much more than if you are at a public school but if you go to Millstream you do not pay for the education but for the supplies.  For instance, if you sign up for the cosmetology program you have to pay a rather large fee but that includes all of the items you will need throughout the course including scissors, dye, etc. that you are allowed to keep at the end of the year.

Millstream offers a wide range of programs for several high school students.  Along with creating a positive and stimulating learning environment, Millstream presents you with the possibility to meet new people that could be lifelong friends.  When your child enters high school, I urge you to consider Millstream for their future!
