9. Molting is when a penguin loses its old feathers as it grows new ones.
10. A Creche is many penguin chicks squeezing together to stay warm.
11. An Emperor penguin can grow to be 3 ½ feet tall.
12. Penguins can hold their breath underwater for 15 minutes.
13. Penguins swim.
14. They can dive to a depth of over 1,700 feet.
15. Female Emperor penguins lay their eggs in June which is the middle of winter in Antarctica.
16. As soon as the egg is laid the mother returns to the sea to eat.
17. The father keeps the egg safe and warm in its brood pouch.
Antarctica:
1. It is the harshest place in the world to live.
2. The average temperature is 40 degrees below zero, and that is in summer.
3. Very few animals call Antarctica home.
