It has always been tough for me to stay active when cold weather strikes. I've always had a hard time finding things to do and ways to spend my time during the cold weather season. When Christmas is over and the New Year has begun, schedules slow down and people are waiting for spring to return. It is so tempting for me, personally to sit around and refuse to get nothing accomplished. I have to work hard to remain active, find activities to participate in and enjoy them. I was considering my options and I have uncovered several options, and ideas and ways to lose those winter blues. From exhilarating recreation like the Cube, to peaceful environments such as George House and Arts Partnership plays, Findlay is equipped with activities and locations for everyone to enjoy.
I will begin with my favorite; George House. Whether I am with a group of friends or by myself, George House creates an environment for people to come, relax, and enjoy the atmosphere. As a coffee house George House offers an eclectic and in-house used book store, and it's comfortable. There are little seating nooks throughout the used bookstore that makes George House such a unique establishment. I'm not even a coffee fan, but still always find the setting very enjoyable.
Another pleasant activity is organized by the Arts Partnership of Findlay. The Arts Partnership sponsors many activities to see and/or be a part of. They hold yearly plays, workshops, and programs in support of the arts. The Arts Partnership strives to provide, encourage, and promote quality arts presentations, educational opportunities, and entertainment. The plays and musicals the Arts Partnership supports are enjoyable and worth your time. They exhibit a variety of different groups who perform wonderfully and represent Arts Partnership very well.
Findlay's original Hancock Recreation Center now known as "The Cube" has an indoor ice-skating rink, recreation room and concession stand. It is a wonderful place to get together with friends or family and enjoy and evening of ice-skating. The Cube is newly renovated and offers hours of fun. It also supports the Findlay Hockey team, Silver Blades skating club, and numerous shows throughout the year.
Findlay also supports two wonderful cinemas. The old Findlay Cinema on the backside of Findlay Mall has six theaters showing new films every week. What is amazing about Findlay Six is that admission is only two to three dollars for a show. The lower price for a movie is reasonably priced, and the movies are enjoyable. The new Cinema in Findlay Carmike twelve also supports twelve theaters. The new facility is beautiful and very enjoyable.
The newly renovated Findlay YMCA supports indoor sports and entertainment. They provide up to date equipment, two pools, and basketball courts. They also offer fun activities for the whole family from aerobics, to a work-out facility to basketball teams. The YMCA is a great way for the family to stay active during the winter months.
AMF Sportsman Lanes in Findlay offers some fun cold weather options. During the winter, they have open bowling every Friday night and run Xtreme bowling from Midnight to 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. Xtreme bowling is done in the dark, with music and under the black lights and costs. Bumper lanes are accessible anytime during open bowling and the facility is non-smoking environment so all can enjoy.
There are many indoor activities to do in Findlay but The Hancock park district supports outdoor activities as well. Cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, and sledding are great forms of exercise for these cold months.
As you can see, Findlay has an assortment of activities to participate in during the winter seasons. There are convenient and enjoyable ways for everyone to get involved with. There are several ways to remain active during the winter season. So I encourage you now to get out there and lose those winter blues.
