Chandler Heavrin

Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance. This exclusive rank is not only held in the highest esteem by ones fellow Scouts, but is also held in high regard as the Scout enters higher education, the business world and the community.

Chandler Heavrin a junior attending Arlington High School and a member of Troop 318 has recently completed all of the stringent requirements to receive the rank of Eagle Scout. He was awarded the rank at a special recognition ceremony at Good Hope Lutheran Church on December 4, 2006 in Arlington.

To earn the Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement rank in Scouting, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. A number of achievements are required to advance through the ranks-Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle. Of the 120 merit badges available, 21 must be earned to qualify for Eagle Scout. Of this group, 12 badges are required, including First Aid, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Communications, Environmental Science, Personal Fitness, Personal Management, Camping, and Family Life. In addition, a Scout has a choice between Emergency Preparedness and Lifesaving and a choice among Cycling, Hiking, and Swimming.

To complete his Eagle Scout requirements, Chandler's project was to build an above ground garden center that would accommodate handicapped and wheelchair bound residents of the Fox Run Manor nursing home in Findlay. While working at the home completing his assignment, he also helped in mulching the many trees that surround the facility.

Chandler began his Scouting career in 1995 as a Cub Scout in Arlington. He moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado for a time and stayed active in the organization there until he returned to Arlington.

In addition to his scouting activities where he remains active as Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 318, Chandler is active in sports and the band at Arlington High School. This summer he hopes to be working at Camp Berry where he can share his scouting experiences with others. Congratulations to Chandler Heavin and his family for a job well done and all the best in your future endeavors.
