United Way Volunteer Nancy Siferd

Findlay, OH - The United Way of Hancock County's Volunteer Center has selected Nancy Siferd as the Spotlight Volunteer for the month of April. Siferd was nominated because of her work as an active volunteer at the Hancock County Agency on Aging. She is a board member and volunteers for numerous events and activities at the agency. She teaches craft classes, sign language classes, drives the van, works as the receptionist, assists with Bingo, serves food at the Senior Café, and organizes numerous events. She has recently completed training to become a volunteer guardian for a senior citizen who has been determined to be incompetent by the local Probate Court. Last year, Siferd accompanied a woman in her 90's, whom she had not met before, on a trip to Minnesota so she could be present at a family gathering. Without Siferd's assistance, she would not have been able to attend.

"It gratifies me to see the smiles on people's faces. I was raised to give back" said Siferd. Siferd was nominated by Michael Noggle, volunteer/guardianship program coordinator at the Agency on Aging. Her nomination noted that she has a caring heart and often takes a senior "under her wing that are lonely, grieving or depressed. She encourages them and puts a smile back on their faces."
Siferd stated that she began volunteering in high school. She is a retired lunch room manager from Findlay City Schools. Siferd and her husband have eight children, 22 grandchildren with the twelfth great-grandchild due in August.

In addition to recognizing individual adults and youth, the Volunteer Center is now accepting nominations of families who volunteer in the community. To nominate an adult, youth or family for Spotlight Volunteer, please contact Bev Phillips, volunteer services director, at 419-423-1432
