Our January Serviceman of the month is United States Army E-2 Cody Michael Mason.

Cody graduated from Arcadia High School in June 2007.  While in school, he was involved with baseball and football.   Mason enlisted in the United States Army after graduation, following in the footsteps of his sister Ashley, his inspiration for joining the service.  Ashley serves with the United States Navy.

Cody is the son of Mike Mason and Brenda and Mike Thomas.  In addition to Ashley, he has a brother Kyle and a sister, Hailey.

After Basic Training in Fort Benning, Georgia, Cody has been training in anti-tank warfare and serves with the 82nd Airborne.  He is currently stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  Mason has also undergone training for combat lifesaving, similar to paramedic work.

Mason is making a career out of the Army, which he says has been a positive influence in his life.  He lists God as his biggest mentor and inspiration.   In his spare time, Cody enjoys working out.   His future plans include marrying his girlfriend Ashton and continuing his service to our country.

When asked why he serves, Cody told is father Mike Mason, "Dad, if I don't, someone else has to."   We're grateful to Mason and each and every person who is in service for our nation and freedom.
