Don't Let a Dead Battery Strand You in the Cold!

February is a very cold month to let a weak or dead battery strand you and your family.  A car will let you know that your battery is reaching the end of its life.  Most of the time you will notice that your car is getting harder to start with the starter speed seeming to crank slower and slower.  If that little voice in your head is telling you that maybe something is wrong, than it is usually right.

Your battery is marked on the top with the number of expected usable months.  It also should be marked with the date it was installed so that you can judge the life that it has left.  Most new batteries have a little viewing eye that will show green when the battery is still good.

Lastly, the terminals need to be free of corrosion build up.  Your charging system will not be able to keep your battery fully charged if the connections are corroded.

If you think your battery is near the end of its life.  Don't take any chances in this cold weather.  Have a reputable facility check it and if needed replace your battery with the best that you can.  You know the old saying, "proper preparation prevents problems."

Good luck, and safe driving!
