The Power of the Pen Findlay Regional Tournament took place Saturday March 15 at Findlay High School. More than 180 seventh and eighth graders from 40 teams took part in a regional competition.  Writing at Regional is quite an achievement; only about 50% of the original competitors from District Competitions proceed to the Regional Level.

At least 36 northwest Ohio seventh and eighth graders will advance to the State

Power of the Pen competition at the College of Wooster in May, thanks
to their success in the
regional competition.

The top performing teams and students, in order of their finish, were:

Top four eighth-grade teams: Timberstone Junior High, Sylvania; Central Middle School, Findlay; Gesu School, Toledo; and St. Rose, Perrysburg.

Top four seventh-grade teams: St. Joseph, Sylvania; St. Rose, Perrysburg; McCord Junior High, Sylvania; and Central Middle School, Findlay.

The Sweepstakes Trophy is awarded to the school with most combined points from both District and Regional.  St. Joseph of Sylvania took home first place, followed by St. Rose of Perrysburg, Central Middle School, Findlay, Timberstone Jr. High and St. Michael School of Findlay finished 5th out of 40 schools.

Local finishers in 7th grade included Taylor Tweed of Central Middle School, 3rd place and Lydia Bauler, St. Michael School, 4th place.

8th grade top awards went to Jack Olesky, Donnell Middle School, 2nd place, Chris Perry, Tiffin Middle School, 2nd place and Leah Cramer, St. Michael School, 4th place.  The top 15 places in each grade receive trophies or medallions.  Leah Cramer also received a Best of the Best Award from the District Competition held in January in Tiffin.
