Not your usual fairy tale, Creel (the fair damsel) is self-sufficient, the handsome prince is a bit of a coward, and the dragon can be bargained with.  Creel gets a pair of slippers as the bargain and sets out to make her way in the big wide world.  In the course of the story, she finds out the slippers were a much better bargain than she'd thought and some princes can be helpful.  Creel has a number of interesting adventures as she eventually saves the entire kingdom from disaster.  The next book in Creel's adventures is called Dragon Flight.
