August 23, 2008
10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
It is once again almost time for the annual Back Street Festival. The event is sponsored by the Hancock Historical Museum located at 422 W. Sandusky Street. This will officially be the 3rd year for this event. However, last year's festival unfortunately was cancelled due to the flood.
Why does this celebration hold the name of the "Back Street" festival? No, it doesn't have anything to do with the boy band the Backstreet Boys! The festivities will take place on Sandusky Street, which they will have closed down to traffic from Liberty to Hurd. Sandusky Street was once named Back Street; hence a name for the festival came about.
A complete day of family fun can be had for all ages considering the wide variety of activities planned for the day. Vintage cars from before World War II will be on display the entire day while owners of the cars will be on hand to answer any questions. Antique bicycles will also be able to be viewed. A vintage fashion show will begin at 1:30. The Hancock Museum will be open for free tours. A quilt exhibit will be on display (the quilt display will also be on August 22 and August 24) by the Stitchin' Time Quilt Club.
When you attend the Back Street Festival, you and your family should plan to come hungry. There will be an ice cream social taking place all day. There will also be a barbeque chicken dinner from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Tickets for the barbeque dinner should be purchased prior to the festival at the Hancock Historical Museum.
Help make this fundraising event for the Hancock Historical Museum be a success. Plan to attend the Back Street Festival. Remember to stop by the museum ahead of time to get your barbeque dinner tickets. If you have any questions, you may contact the museum at 419-423-4433.
