Here is something to cheers your beer too!  Not only is it Oktoberfest season, it is also the 1 year anniversary of the Cheers to Beer feature in Findlay Living!  On to more important things, it's OKTOBERFEST SEASON!!

Sometimes the meanings of international festivals tend to get lost in translation when they make their way over to the states, especially when they involve alcohol.  Let's take a second and learn about how Oktoberfest is more than just great beer.

This year Oktoberfest is officially celebrated throughout the world from September 20th to October 5th.  The very first Oktoberfest, back in 1810 was held in honor of the Bavarian Crown Price Ludwig's marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen.  Why is part of Oktoberfest not in October?  The answer is very pragmatic - the weather tends to be warmer during September!  It is tradition, however, that the last Oktoberfest weekend will always be in October.

Now, on to two great German beers!  The first is classic, a Munich Helles Lager that is known as the "Lion's Brew", or Lowenbrau.  With its' herbal aroma, light bodied, crisp taste and hint of malty sweetness, Lowenbrau is the perfect pairing with any traditional German fare.

The next beer is only brewed during Oktoberfest season and is brought to us by the famous German brewer, Beck's.  Beck's Oktoberfest pours a beautiful chocolate amber color with aromas of caramel and coffee.  The taste is astounding, blending notes of roasted and caramel malts with a touch of sweetness.  Although full bodied, Beck's Oktoberfest finishes crisp, clean and leaves you wanting more.  Try this tasty brew with roasted chicken, brats, a side of potato salad and the darkest chocolate you can find.

Looking for more authentic German beer info to celebrate Oktoberfest with?  Both of these noteworthy beers are still brewed under "Reinheitsgebot", the German Purity Law of 1516 that states that all German brews must use only the purest barley, malt, hops, yeast & water to meet the exacting standards of the treaty.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Grab your lederhosen, stick a feather in your alpine hat, cook some brats, call your friends and purchase some Lowenbrau and Beck's Oktoberfest to help celebrate, (responsibly of course!), the 198th Oktoberfest.  Prost!
