With a growing family, David Kirk (1849-1922) built this Queen Anne style home in the spring of 1886. The first floor included the parlors, dining room, kitchen, and a bedroom and a small bath for David and Mary, as well as a side entrance for persons arriving in a carriage. The second floor had five bedrooms, and the third floor attic had a tank to save rainwater. Gaslights were a feature of the home, lit by the natural gas first drilled in December 1884 and the catalyst for an economic boom in Findlay in the late 1880s and early 1890s. Two rooms have been added to the west on the first floor, and the side carriage entrance is now a bathroom. Smaller bedrooms upstairs were made into bathrooms.

David and his second wife Mary lived in the home until their respective deaths in 1922 and 1941. Their youngest son Harry moved in with his wife Mary Snyder Kirk after his parents' deaths. Harry, who managed the mill for over 50 years, died in 1980. His wife Mary continued living there until 2000. The home was given to the Hancock Historical Museum in the summer of 2002 by Mary and her daughter Barbara Mathieson Kirk.

Kirk House is also available for special events, such as meetings, receptions, private parties, luncheons, and dinners. The first floor dining room, parlor and sitting room can be arranged for up to 50 persons for sit-down meals or a larger group for receptions. Kirk House also has a lovely, landscaped backyard available for outdoor events.
