By Jan 2, 2007, 11:56 Birchaven Village has received notice from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) that it has passed its annual licensure with "zero deficiencies."  ODH licenses and certifies more than 1,000 nursing homes annually as a requirement for participation in Medicare and Medicaid programs. The Division of Quality Assurance ensures the quality of care and the quality of life of nursing homes and nursing facilities by conducting on-site inspections/surveys with state and federal regulations.  Each facility in Ohio receives at least one unannounced inspection during the survey cycle.  During these inspections, all aspects of care are evaluated based on state and federal laws and rules.  The QA Division also investigates issues related to residents' rights, quality of care, quality of life, staffing, abuse, dietary and environmental concerns.
