Car Tunes on Main

Car buffs will again get their chance to enjoy classic cars in downtown Findlay this summer.

"Car Tunes on Main," an event sponsored by the Flag City Corvette Club and the United Way of Hancock County, will roar into downtown June 2 from 11 a.m. to midnight.

While the event will fill the void left by Cruise Night, a longstanding classic car show that ended in 2005, organizers say Car Tunes on Main will include more family activities and entertainment by the Danger Brothers.

"Past Cruise Nights were all about the cars," said the United Way's Tamera Rooney. "We're making this more a festival atmosphere surrounded by cars and tunes."

The event will feature a class and sports car cruise-in that begins at 4 p.m. Registration begins at 11 a.m. in the Marathon parking lot off East Lincoln Street, and is open to all cars from 1985 and earlier, as well as two-seater sports cars from any year. Cars will begin parking on the street at 6 p.m. and start leaving at 11 p.m. Registration is $12 before May 14 and $15 after, and includes a free t-shirt. To register, go to www.cartunesonmain.com or call Gary at 419-422-0852.

Once cars are parked they will not re-join the cruising, which Rooney said will help with pedestrian safety. In addition, while cars are cruising pedestrians will be restricted to the sidewalks. After all cars are parked pedestrians will be allowed into the street to enjoy the cars and other activities.

Those activities include the Danger Brothers concert at 7 p.m., the raffling of a restored 1984 Corvette, a Guitar Ranch Rock Off, food vendors and different children's activities.

Also helping with the event are the Young Professionals Network and the Findlay Flag City Morning Rotary. Proceeds will be shared among the four groups and will go towards community projects and activities.
