The Fort Findlay chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated several local students at an Honors Tea May 20 at 2 pm. at the Salem United Methodist Church.

Each year, the national organization sponsors an American history essay contest for students in grades 5-8, with this year's topic focusing on the settlement of the Jamestown Colony. The topic was selected to help commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown. In the essay, students were to assume the persona of an early settler and write a letter to family members who remained in England. Additionally, students in all grades (pre-school through high school) had the opportunity to participate in art , creative expression and community service contests by using posters, stamps, photo essays, banners, poems, short stories and community projects to convey the message of "Jamestown Settlement: An American Beginning."
