Car Care Tips
Windshield wipers for the winter

This time of year I am always asked about windshield wipers.  Should a person buy the special winter blades, the open style blades, or the rubber covered blades.  After 170,000 oil changes and tens of thousands of wiper blades my advice is this:

  1. Buy a new set of premium all- weather blades before the snow falls.
  2.  Turn off your wipers before you turn off your car.  The #1 reason that a blade gets damaged is because it was stuck to the windshield and a driver turns on the wipers.
  3.  Gently scrape the wipers free when you are scraping the ice off of your windows.
  4.  Start your car a few minutes early so that the defroster can melt ice from the windshield.

Don't pour hot water on your windshield, you could crack it.  Don't use anything but a plastic scraper to clear your windows to avoid scratches.

Good luck and stay warm.
