Salute to Area Servicemen - March 2008

Our March Military Salute is Private Brent E. Myers, United States Marine Corps.

Myers, 19, of Findlay, Ohio completed his basic training in 2007 a Parris Island, South Carolina. His "Honor Platoon #3013 India Company" received the Regiment High Score for Knowledge Testing.

While in junior high and high school, Brent was was active with the Hancock County Sheriff Explorers for 6 years where he was currently retains the rank of Captain.

Myers is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Tim Myers and grandson to Mr. & Mrs. Richard Myers and Mr. William F. Stauffer and late Barbara J. Stauffer all of Findlay, Ohio.

His cousin Michael DeLong, of Lexington, Kentucky has been an inspiration for Myers. DeLong has proudly served United States Marines for four years, from 2000-2004 "8th & I" in Washington, DC. The Marine Barracks Washington, also known as "8th & I," is the oldest active post in the Marine Corps. Located on the corners of 8th & I streets in southeast Washington, D.C., the Barracks supports both ceremonial and security missions in the nation's capitol.

In addition to his cousin , Myers' mentors include SDI SSgt. Shropshire and D.I. SSgt. Panikowski Parris Island, SC. "Semper Fi !!".. It was the dedication of all my Drill Instructors that made me the Marine I am today."

Myers is currently at Camp Gieger, North Carolina for Marine Combat Training and then he will be sent to New River, NC for Military Occupation Specialty Training, which is Aviation Mechanics. Myers a completed German language testing at Parris Island, SC.

The Marine plans to serve in Germany or Japan. "And in the future possibly return to Parris Island as a Drill Instructor and further myself in the Marine Corps. I am just very happy to be able to serve my country."

He goes on to say "The title of Marine is earned, I have completed this Mission, you can earn the title as well, all you need is Values- Core Values: HONOR, COURAGE and COMMITMENT. ...It’s a great ride……Jump on!”

In his spare time, Myers enjoys music, family, friends, cars and watching the Military Channel.
