Bringing the World Together in Findlay

It seems that today, all the world news is focused on nations in conflict with neighboring nations. Global terrorism, environmental destruction out of control and the world's religions under attack, how do the people find solutions to the injustices that seem to plague our planet? In large part it all begins by communication and cooperation.

Bringing people from around the world together can often times prove nearly impossible for politicians on the world stage, but for forty years students from around the world attending the University of Findlay have been participating in International Day. This year, Friday April 11 was decreed International Day in Findlay by Mayor Pete Sehnert. Students and faculty members transformed the Alumni Memorial Union on the University of Findlay campus into a "United Nations" of sorts.

Students from around the world dressed in traditional attire and set up displays inside the Union. The event, open to the public were treated to customary foods from around the world.
Students displayed traditional items from their countries and educated those in attendance about their cultures. The day also included customary singing and dance entertainment giving everyone a "taste" of the student's country and culture.

The United States, although not perfect, represents the best example of tolerance; whether religious or political, on Earth and the concept of sharing cultural differences with one another will hopefully go back with the students to their home country upon graduation. We are fortunate here to be home to an institution that values true diversity and understanding and actively promotes these concepts of peace and cooperation at home and around the world.
