Local Second Annual Event is United Way Community Kickoff
For many years, thousands of car lovers have celebrated summertime in downtown Findlay with a showcase of cars. And the tradition continues. "Car Tunes on Main" will include a community cruise, a car show in downtown Findlay, specialty cars on display, a family activity area and great music all day long. All proceeds will be used to advance the common good in Hancock County.
The Flag City Corvette Club is managing the downtown Car Show. Registration will be Sat. Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Cars will be parked on Main St. and side streets from 3-6:30 p.m. For the safety of all participants, cars leaving early will not be able to re-enter the event. Everyone loves to watch cars on the move, so this year the event will include a Community Cruise. Cruisers can anytime after 11:00 a.m. in Marathon Parking Lot, off E. Lincoln St. in downtown Findlay. Pit-stops will be ready all over town and a map will be provided. The community cruise route will also be available to the public on the website and in the local newspaper the Friday before the event. "We hope that car lovers will take their lawn chairs and sit along the route to watch the cruisers," said Tamera Rooney, communications director for United Way. Spectators will also be welcome to visit the pit-stop locations. Cruisers who complete the community cruise will be entered in a drawing for a gift basket that includes a $500 gas card from Marathon Oil Company. Many of the pit-stops will also have special events such as food, music, specialty cars and prizes. For more details on the community cruise, visit cartunesonmain.org or call 419-423-1432. The cost to register a car, which includes the community cruise and the car show, is only $15. Early car registration is encouraged. The registration form is available at cartunesonmain.org or contact Gary Spaeth, at 419-422-0852. Flag City Morning Rotary will be hosting a beer garden and Danger Brothers concert from 6 p.m to midnight in the parking lot across from the Courthouse. The Danger Brothers take the stage at 8 p.m. The cost of admission to this area is $5 per person. The Guitar Ranch will be hosting a "rock off", featuring the video game Guitar Hero. The band Jaded will perform. The Guitar Ranch Rock Off will be held in Latham Courtyard between 2 and 6 p.m. Last year the event brought more than 10,000 people to downtown Findlay. With this year's added community cruise, the event is expected to be even bigger. "We saw that last year's event was very well received, which is why we wanted to make it even bigger this year. Special thanks goes out to our major sponsors; Cooper, Whirlpool, Great Scot and Flag City Online. Their financial support ensures that all funds raised from this event will go to advancing the common good in Hancock County," Rooney said. Volunteers will be needed for many aspects of the event. Individuals interested in volunteering should contact Beverly Phillips, community services director, at 419-423-1432 or bphillips@uwhancock.org For more information, or to sponsor the event, contact Rooney at 419-423-1432 or trooney@uwhancock.org. © Copyright 2003-2006 by Findlay Living and DynamiKComm, Inc. |
