The second in the Abarat series deserves a standing ovation from readers everywhere. These books follow the adventures and misadventures of Candy Quackenbush (yes, Quackenbush) who thought she was just a normal girl from
Chickentown USA (yes, Chickentown). In the first book Candy runs away from school, summons an ocean to Minnesota and escapes to Abarat, a place highly different than Earth.

Throughout the first installment, Candy comes into contact with a colorful array of friends-such as the Mischief brothers, the slave Malingo- and many enemies.

Candy meets Christopher Carrion in the second book, Days of
Magic, Nights of War. In this book, Candy begins to realize that she is NOT the average schoolgirl from Minnesota she thought she was. She discovers the use of magic, and her ability to easy travel between different-houred islands, Archipelago. Candy has a fate tied to that of the Abarat. As Candy continues travelling through the many hours of Abarat, she fights against dark forces and learns that she does have a larger purpose in Abarat.

Days of Magic, Nights of War is an amazing book, filled with lush illustations by the author, and so many strange creatures and amazing characters-it will be read again, and again. Readers of all ages will devour this big and be left begging for a third book.
